Assessment and treatment planning are the first steps in creating a personalized ABA program that fits your child’s needs and your family’s routines. During this process, a BCBA completes caregiver interviews, observes natural interactions at home or in the community, and uses standardized tools to understand your child’s communication, play, behavior, and daily living skills. Together, we identify goals that support confidence, independence, emotional well-being, and meaningful progress at home, school, and in the community. This thoughtful planning helps guarantee that therapy feels natural, respectful, and aligned with your child’s strengths and learning style.
Our assessment process is designed to be gentle, family-centered, and thorough. It may include:
Assessments typically take one or two sessions, totaling about two to three hours. This gives us enough time to understand your child’s communication, play skills, daily routines, sensory needs, and emotional regulation.
After the assessment is complete, we work closely with your family to create goals that feel meaningful and achievable. Your BCBA reviews the information gathered during interviews and observations, considers your priorities, and identifies skills that will make daily life easier and more enjoyable for your child. Goals may focus on communication, emotional regulation, independence, social interaction, or routines at home and school. This collaborative process makes sure that your child’s plan reflects what matters most to your family and supports steady progress across environments.
The number of recommended therapy hours is based on your child’s assessment results, communication level, daily routines, safety needs, and the level of support required for meaningful progress. Parent priorities and insurance guidelines are also taken into consideration. We take time to explain these recommendations so families understand both the reasoning and the expected benefits. Our goal is to create a plan that is effective, manageable, and truly supportive.
Treatment plans are reviewed and updated every six months to match your child’s growth and evolving needs. During these updates, we look at progress on current goals, any new skills or challenges, changes at home or school, and your family’s feedback. Data collected throughout treatment guide these decisions. This process helps keep your child’s program responsive, personalized, and aligned with their developmental stage.
Your BCBA plays an active, hands-on role. They typically observe sessions two to four times per week, depending on your child’s needs. During supervision, the BCBA:
This frequent involvement helps build steady, meaningful progress.
